Situated on a large hillock with a natural lake, this heritage hotel was built in the late 19th century by the Maharaja of Bikaner as a summer palace. The aim was to retain the original character of this royal holiday home while renovating its spacious suite rooms. The interior elements and the furniture pieces follow Colonial style as it was popular among the royalty when the palace was commissioned. While the patterns used in the upholstery and the overall forms bear European influences, the vivid Indian colours used in drapes & fabrics, along with the use of materials like silk fabrics, Burma teak and Rosewood, add Indian-ness to the space, giving it a true ‘Indian-colonial’ appeal. The colours, patterns and compositions of the ceramic tiles used in the bathrooms have been detailed out considering the opulence of the Colonial-Rajput style architecture and decor.
